Secondly, Red’s Pest Control can help by assessing your property and implementing a trapping or barrier protection method to reduce the likelihood of mosquitoes from these areas migrating to your space. This issue is probably one of the toughest ones to deal with, as results can be short lived, and follow up treatments are often necessary.
Is DIY mosquito control effective?
Absolutely! It is very important to eliminate standing water and keep tall grass and crowded bushes trimmed up. Regularly inspect your home, especially after rainfall to assess if anything around the house is conducive to infestation. After that, there’s 3 generally effective ways to control visiting mosquitoes: First, mosquito repellents. OFF! works but uses Deet. A lot of people have poor reactions to Deet (myself included). Alternatives such as Repel also work to a degree. Second, a good wind current. Mosquitoes are somewhat weak fliers. The Ankle Biter especially has a rough time against a strong wind. Outdoor fans can prove useful, especially at ground level; they’re also a pleasant option during our hot summer evenings! Third, smoke is generally a repellent. Whether it’s coming from a tiki torch, a bonfire, or a BBQ, mosquitoes usually are deterred by smoke. Unfortunately, there’s always a few persistent biters that’ll push past all these options. Some control is better than none though!
